BIS After School Clubs (2015) - Session 3 - Information & Policies

Hi all students, parents, and friends!

BIS would like to inform you that we will be kicking off After School Clubs here again shortly and that this second semester we will have 2 more After School Clubs sessions.

In this upcoming session, SESSION 3, we are very excited to offer a total of 6 different clubs with fun options for grades Pre-K4 through 12^th grade.

Attached are two documents, one containing all of our club policies and information about Session 3 clubs, and the other being the Session 3 Sign-Up Form. Please take a look and check out the different clubs we will be offering. Make sure to read through all of our After School Clubs policies and information before choosing your club(s). Not only do we offer these clubs to BIS students but also to anyone that would like to participate from the surrounding community in Brasilia, so spread the word and please feel free to invite your friends!!

Please check the after school club you would like your child to participate in. Clubs will meet from 3:30 pm until 4:30 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays starting on April 23rd  and ending on May 22nd. Students must be picked up from BIS promptly at 4:30pm. Each club will meet a total of 5 weeks. Please send the appropriate amount of money with the signed form by Monday, April 21st. Space is limited in each club so please turn in your registration form as soon as possible to reserve your child's spot. In case a club is full, priority will be given to BIS students over guest students.

Is transportation a problem?

BIS does not endorse or hold responsibility for any specific transportation service. However, we encourage families to seek out options to allow student to participate in clubs.  Therefore, if transportation to clubs is a problem the following are local providers families may consider contacting for services.  All students must be picked up by 4.30 pm to avoid a late pickup fee. Clubs for April and May 2014 (5 sessions).

Soccer Club - This club is open to students in 1st to 6th grade and it will be lead by Ms Caroline (former professional soccer player). Students will learn skills to improve their soccer and futsal game! We will work on soccer fundamentals and team strategies. Cost - R$85.

Art Club  -  This club is open to students in 3rd to 6th grade and it will be lead by Mrs. Elsa Pastro  In this club students will create fun artifacts using recyclable goods from home and from school. Used plastic bottles, used soda cans, recycled paper and much more will come together to make art masterpieces. This club will have a maximum of 6 students in each class. ** This club will only start on April 30th and it will have a total of four sessions.  Cost - R$85.

Dance Club (Wednesday)  -  This club is open to students in 3rd to 6th grade and it will be lead by Ms. Duke.  In this club students will learn new dance moves and fun choreographies from various songs. This will be a great club to practice balance, coordination, and rhythm (plus it's a great workout). Should be loads of fun! Cost R$-85. .

Archery Club -  This club will be lead by Coach Batista and is open to students in 5th to 12th grade, with a maximum of 8 students. Students will learn the safety rules of the shooting range and the fundamental steps of archery. Students will practice shooting arrows from 10 meters and 15 meters. This will be an exciting and fun club. The school will provide the bows and arrows, but students are welcome to bring their own equipment if desired. Cost- R$85.

Fitness Club - This club is open to girls in 7th to 12th grade and all BIS moms. This club will be lead by Ms. Sewell. In this club students will do different exercise routines using the TRX and other workout equipment in order to increase muscle strength and overall fitness. This is a great opportunity to get in shape and/or increase your fitness.Cost - R$85.

Dance Club (Thursday)  -  This club is open to students in Kindergarten to 2nd grade and it will be lead by Ms. Seal.  In this club students will learn new dance moves and fun choreographies from various songs. 2014 Clubs – February/March - (6 sessions).

 

 

Tumbling and Balance Club -  This club is open to students in Preschool 4 to 2^nd grade and it will be lead by Coach Batista. In this club students will learn and practice (on the mat) forward and backwards roles, cart-wheels (left and right), balance on the slack-line, hand-stands and more advanced moves with the assistance of the coach. Should be super fun! This club will have a maximum of 10 students. Cost R$85.

 

Art Club (Tuesday or Wednesday)  -  This club is open to students in 3^rd to 6^th grade and it will be lead by Mrs. Elsa Pastro There will be two classes, so you may choose to come on every Tuesday or every Wednesday (once you join a class you may not switch).  In this club students will create fun artifacts using recyclable goods from home and from school. Beginner Soccer Club (after school on Tuesday) - This club is open to students in Preschool 4 to 2^nd grade and it will be lead by Ms Caroline (former professional soccer player). This will be a great place for students to learn soccer fundamentals and team strategies at an early age. Cost - R$85

 

Intermediate Soccer Club (after school on Wednesday) - This club is open to students in 3^rd to 6^th  grade and it will be lead by Ms Caroline (former professional soccer player). Students will learn skills to improve their soccer and futsal game! We will work on soccer fundamentals and team strategies. Students in this club are also encouraged to sign up for the Elementary Soccer Team which will practice during school hours (in the afternoon recess time). Cost for Soccer Club-  R$85.

 

Elementary Soccer Team  (during school hours) – Soccer team is open to students in 3^rd to 6^th  grade and it will be lead by Coach Batista.  This soccer practice will be during the students' second recess (1:35pm to 1:55pm, on Monday , Thursday and Friday). These students will represent our school as we play against different schools and clubs in Brasilia. Cost R$20 or free for those students enrolled in the After School Soccer Club.

 

Digital Photography Club -  This club will be led by Mr. Caetano (professional photographer) and is open to students in 7^th to 12^th grade, with a maximum of 8 students. Students will learn how to use their digital camera and learn the fundamentals of composition to take better pictures. Bring your digital camera and don't miss out on this great opportunity to have fun! Cost R$ 85.

Dear parents and students, 

Thank you for your participation and support in after-school clubs. It's been a terrific semester. Our next session of clubs will start in February so plan your schedules ahead so you don't miss out! 

 

Soccer club with Ms Carolina (former professional soccer player and awesome coach)! We will offer soccer after school on Tuesday and Thursday for students in 3rd to 6th grade (or ages 8 to 12), and on Wednesdays for students on preschool 4 to 2nd grade (or ages 4 to 7). Coach Batista will also be helping Ms. Carolina with this soccer program. This club is open to all children, so bring a friend that is not from BIS too! Soccer club will also continue throughout the whole semester, from February to June. 

 

Digital Photography Club -  This club will be led by Mr. Caetano (professional photographer) and is open to students in 7^th to 12^th grade, with a maximum of 8 students. Students will learn how to use their digital camera and learn the fundamentals of composition to take better pictures. At the end of the club students will expose their best work in the school gallery. Should be great fun!

 

 "Hang Out Club" This club is designed to help families who have children doing multiple activities at BIS. In this club students will have a chance to do their homework (by themselves without teacher assistance), or simply hang out while their siblings are doing a different club. This way all children can go home at the same time in one vehicle. Students in this club are encouraged to bring a snack in case they get hungry. This club is available to BIS students only.  

 

And much more… Throughout the semester we will offer many other different clubs as well such as Archery, Baking, Art, Tennis, etc… so stay tuned and plan ahead of 2014.

2013 Clubs - November - (4 sessions).

 

 

Capoeira Club -  This club is open to students in Kindergarten to 8^th grade and it will be lead by Capoeira instructor, Aladin.  Capoeira is a Brazilian dance/ martial art developed by the African slaves who helped colonize Brazil in the 1500's. Students will learn the fundamental steps (jinga) of capoeira, along with different songs and moves that make up the capoeira experience. This will be an amazing club and a great Brazilian cultural experience! Cost R$85

 

Baking Club -  This club is open to students in Preschool 4 to 2^nd  grade and it will be lead by Mrs Turner and Mrs Karol. In this club students will learn how to bake sweets and make other interesting snacks. We will also put together a recipe book with all the recipes we make this semester. This club can have a maximum of 12 students. Cost R$70.

 

Christmas Art Club -  This club is open to students in 3^rd to 6^th grade and it will be lead by Mrs. Elsa Pastro. In this club students will create fun Christmas artifacts using recyclable goods from home and from school. Used plastic bottles, used soda cans, recycled paper and much more will come together to make art masterpieces J. This club will have a maximum of 8 students. Cost R$60

 

Basketball club . This club is open to students in 3^rd to 6^th  grade and it will be lead by Coach Batista.  In this club we will practice basketball fundamentals (dribbling, shooting, passing) and team strategies for offense and defense. Cost R$60

 

Archery Club -  This club will be lead by Coach Batista and is open to students in 7^th to 12^th grade, with a maximum of 8 students (if space is available students in 5^th and 6^th grade may also join).   Students will learn the safety rules of the shooting range and the fundamental steps of archery. Students will practice shooting arrows from 10 meters and 15 meters. This will be an exciting and fun club. Christmas Program Practice - Any high school student who has a speaking or acting part in the Christmas Program is strongly encouraged to join us on Wednesday afternoons as we prepare for another great Christmas program! We look forward to seeing you there! – Mrs. Boggan. Cost – free.
